Because of the receipt.
That horrifying number at the end of the receipt, which also evilly appears in your checking account.
That number has recently become less scary for me, and I am going to share with you why.
The first app I would like to mention is called Ibotta. You can find it here in the app store and here in the google play store. Ibotta, in a nutshell, allows you to redeem rebates on items before shopping by watching a short video ad, taking a survey, or learning a fact. Then, after you have purchased the products, you do either 1 of 2 things:
For non-loyalty member stores: Scan each items bar code you have a rebate for and then scan the receipt.
For loyalty member stores: Enter your loyalty card information into the ibotta app, and after you have purchased the items (make sure to have your card scanned at the checkout counter!!) they will automatically appear within a few days. No scanning required!
After you have done these steps, Ibotta gives you the rebates within the app. After you have enough rebates, you can then either deposit the money into your bank account via Paypal, or you can redeem gift cards from places like Walmart, Starbucks, or Amazon.
As shown above, I have already gotten $49.70 over the month and a half I have been using the app!! And remember, I only shop for a family of 2! If you were buying more groceries than I am then you would be getting even more money back.
***If you start using Ibotta, enter referral code qpisovy and we each get $2 (this deal may be just for a limited time - I'm not sure!)***
The main function of this app I use is Savings Catcher. Savings Catcher allows you to scan your Walmart receipt, and then will search to find any lower advertised prices from other stores in your area for the items you purchased. If there are lower prices, Walmart will give you the difference back! No more price matching at check out required. You can then turn the money you have gotten back into an eGift card for your next shopping trip.
So far I have gotten back $10.94 and I have only used it for a month and a half. Again, you would get more back if you shop more than I do!
All you do is enter your loyalty card information into FoodCity.com and then you can peruse coupons to have added to your card! Then, so long as you scan your card at checkout, it applies the coupons automatically. No paper clipping required! Food city even works with Ibotta, so you can combine the two methods and save even more!
