This year I decided to try my hand at fall gardening. So far it has turned out pretty good, although the lettuce I planted bolted before I could eat any of it.
Before you plant a fall garden, or any garden, really, make sure you do your research. I live in East Tennessee, so I used this guide by the University of Tennessee. Basically just don't plant anything that either can't handle the cooler weather or that will not start producing before it gets really cold.
I planted kale, butter crunch lettuce, brussels sprouts, and broccoli. The kale has done really well, and the broccoli and brussels sprouts are well on their way to my kitchen! The lettuce didn't do as well, but I think if I plant it earlier next year it will do fine.
